18:366 Land
Better than the last one. This image contains foreground, middle ground, and background objects. There are some things I wish I did better here, but this is a learning process.
17:366 X61 Bob White Field
Unfortunately they cannot all be gems. Honestly, I do not like this image at all. I failed to convey what I saw at this little grass landing strip. This is learning taking place. Tomorrow is another day and another photograph will be taken.
13:366 Swamp
//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js
Not really a swamp, but it has some similar characteristics. You can find this along one of the hiking trails at Lake Louisa State Park.
12:365 Reflections
“Reflections of what you took from me…” No wait, not the song. Just a simple shot of reflections off the ambulance. Finding images at work will prove more difficult as the year moves forward. Only so many photos of an ambulance one can take.
11:365 Dark Water
Dark water warning at Lake Louisa State Park. The tannins from the vegetation leave the water a lovely shade of dark brown (some say tea colored). Since you would not be able to see a submerged person they have this warning for all swimmers.
10:366 No Lifeguard on Duty
Project 366 is an experiment to learn new things. Today I was learning with filters, while much was learned there is I now know that there is more I need to learn. Yes friends, learning is taking place.
09:366 Easy Like Sunday Morning
Fog is common in Florida, especially around the winter months. Unfortunately for me it was rolling out and this was the best photo I could find with the time I had.
WDW
I can only pick one photo per day to be the photo of the day in Project 366. Some days I have more that one photo that I like. Here are the extras from 06 January 2016.
08:366 Seminole-Lake Glideport
A small grass field, with many gliders (seen in the lower right in travel trailers) waiting for good weather to fly. http://www.soarfl.com/Home.html
06:366 Eat
We took an afternoon and visited the parks at Walt Disney World. This image is from the Osborn Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights on display at Hollywood Studios. I am told that this will be the last year for this event, which closed on Jan. 06 2016.
05:366 Scrappy
Scrappy the terrier mix. We’ve had scrappy for many years now, she has always looked like the hot mess she is, and she is happiest when she is stealing things from others in the house. Favorite activity: running. Second favorite: wind in her face. She’s all dog.
04/366 Van Fleet State Trail
//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js
The Van Fleet State Trail is a Rail-to-trail that runs 29 miles from Sumter County down to Polk County. There are three trail heads, one at each terminus north and south, and a main entrance off of County Road 565 in Lake County. You will occasionally see remains of the rail line that ran through here. Learn more about the Van Fleet State Trail here https://www.floridastateparks.org/trail/Van-Fleet.
03/366 Maker’s Mark
//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js
Every year, Maker’s Mark Bourbon sends little gifts to it’s ambassadors. Last year we got the sweater, this year we received the ear muffs. The temptation was too much to not dress up my bottle of Maker’s Mark Bourbon. They do send useful things for adult sized humans as well, like a set of tumblers.
02/366 The Office
//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js
Fair warning, you are going to see a lot of EMS related images. I work 12-14 hour days, which leaves little time (or daylight) for photography on days I work. Here is the back of an ambulance. Looks much like every other ambulance out there.
Who Goes There? or 01/366
//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js
Greetings and salutations. Over 4 years have passes since the last post on this blog, but now it is time to resurrect the photo blog, remove the cobwebs and dust.
I am going to make another attempt at Project 365. The third try at taking a photo every day, this project will be called 366:2016 (since it is a leap year). I may not get a blog post every day uploaded, if you want to know each and every day what image I took follow my flickr site, https://www.flickr.com/photos/joelneild/.
The first image is of the Ferndale Post Office in Ferndale, FL. 01/366.
Grove Arcade
Opened in 1929, the Grove Arcade was a dream of Dr. Edwin Riley Grove, the owner of the Battery Park hotel which can bee seen in the photo below just behind the Arcade. Grove wanted to bring a shopping market to downtown Asheville, believing the a city needed a vibrant downtown area.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Arcade now has shops on the first floor, business offices on the second. The floors above the second are locked out, unless you have a key card.
North Entrance, Battery Park Hotel in the background
Looks like these were phone booths, now hold a display on the history of the Grove Arcade
November Wallpaper
I’m going to try something different, for me anyway. Photographers have been giving away desktop wallpaper images for a while now, it’s my turn. I created a wallpaper for November, with a month calendar. I have also included wallpaper sized for iPads and iPhone and android mobile phones.
Desktop Wallpaper (1920 x 1200)
Biltmore
The Biltmore Estate, Located in Asheville, NC was the home of the Vanderbilt family from 1895-1930. The family opened the estate to the public in 1930 and has remained on the top places to visit since. No photography is allowed in the house, but more than 8,000 acres are open to explore on the grounds.
The house sits on a hill and it is hard to find any signs of the outside world as far as you can see. This image is looking off to the Southwest.
This path, leads to the garden areas, which will be featured in a separate blog post.
Cumberland Gap, TN
We took the road less traveled on the way to Asheville. I have heard about the Cumberland Gap since fifth grade history, now as a resident of Kentucky this historic site really puts the westward movement in to perspective. I cannot imagine having to travel on foot over these mountains, carrying your possessions.
The town of Cumberland Gap, TN is a small town. The buildings are mostly brick and on the register of historic places. The holler that this town occupies reminds me of a frontier town, one that’s grown up slightly. The bridge shown above is for the bike/walking path that follows the stream.
A popular site along one of the hiking trails, is the Iron Furnace. All that remains of the iron smelting operation is the stone lined furnace.
Asheville, North Carolina
Asheville at night.
I was lucky enough to spend a few days in the Asheville area with my wife this week. She was kind enough to put up with my photography addiction. You will be the benefactors.
